  • Projects for Next 3 years

In the next 3 years I will be looking to hone the colors of my lines through selective breeding to bring wicked colored hypos that are 100% het Trans.

My biggest project will be to work on developing a super dark or even black translucent. Pictured above and below is an Pogona Barbata or Eastern Bearded Dragon.  The Easterns are known for their dark pigment, and elongated bodies. This is the original bloodline that gave the "German Giants" their size and bone structure, these guys are big! With size up to 27" in the wild, they have a very long tail when compared to the Central Bearded Dragon.

The biggest challenge I face is finding parents with the right genetics to produce extremely dark colored offspring. And then introducing the Translucent gene into their offspring to eventually produce a super dark translucent, or even my goal the "Super Black Trans". I'm looking for dark pigmentation like the pictures above and below, and eventually being able to add black eyes to the mix will make for a very impressive morph.

Again the challenge I face is that 95% of the United States Bearded Dragon stock has been breed for color and reducing the pigment shown in their skin to bring out those vibrant colors. This is the total opposite of what I'm trying to due. Luckily I have a few dragons with the right genetics and I'm hopefully picking up a another pair in the near future that should help me get one step closer to this achievement. I wouldn't be surprised if this takes me a minimum of 3-5 years to complete. I love a challenge, and provided my real job and my "Wife" don't kill me first I think I have a pretty good chance at making this happen! Time, patience, and the right genetics is needed... At the moment I have all three, so as long as time is on my side I should have an interesting next couple of years! Wish me luck!

Projects for the next 12 months

Updated September 6th 2008:

Planned breeding for this year are as follows,

  • Snow Flake x Ed for some nice Tangerine babies with Citrus highlights, and they are 100% het Hypo.
  • Snow Flake x Adonis for some colorful Hypos that are 100% het Trans!
  • Sunshine x Spike for some nice hypos that are 100% het Leucistic. And possibly Sunshine x Mango for some ridiculously colorful Hypos!
  • Lola x Luie will created some beautiful citrus/pastel babies with a lot of orange accents. I may also cross Lola to Adonis just to see what the offspring look like, and to test if Lola is Het Hypo. Next year Lola will be crossed with Diesel to hopefully create some dark 100% Het Trans babies.
  • Violet x Mango will create some of the most vibrant babies you will ever see. Their coloration is out of this world! Just take a look at the pictures of them on the breeder page! Violet will also be crossed to my Dachiu Red either late this year or in the spring of next year to produce a super deep red offspring.
  •  Summer of 2009 will have breeding's from Lime x Sunshine, Fozzie Jr. x Matilda, Chili x Lucy, Diesel x Lucy, Red x Matilda, and Red x Violet. These crossing are always subject to change, but these are my current thoughts.
